Description: Off in the distance to the southeast was the cabin of a Mrs. Lathrop. The cabin stood just about where the house that you see stands today. According to Hinton, a Mrs. Lathrop stood with young children in front of her log cabin and shouted, "God bless you, boys! God bless you boys! Hurra for the Union! Hurra for Kansas! Give it to 'em." After the battle, the area in and around the cabin was used as a field hospital. When this occurred, Mrs. Lathrop took the children north to the Ragain's house which was located near the Mound City Road (now State Highway 52).
