Location: Start at WCNB Auto Tour Stop 7 and follow the trail down the hill to the four artillery pieces on you left. These guns mark the position of Totten's Battery [ Waypoint = N37 06.355 W93 24.831 ] beginning around 6:30 A.M. on August 10th.
WCNB Description:
"These four guns mark the position during most of the battle of Captain James Totten's 2nd U.S. Artillery Battery. Totten (nicknamed 'Bottle-Nose Totten' because of his fondness for brandy) and the Union Army first clashed with the Southerners at dawn a little more than half a mile northeast of here. Lyon's small army of 4,200 men advanced to just beyond this spot, meeting only sporadic resistance from the startled Southerners. A quick Union victory seemed imminent to many of the inexperienced Federals."
